Even The Playing Field With Big Companies By Optimizing Your Website For Google Places

In the past companies spent thousands of dollars on the yellow pages and radio, but today this advertising tactic does not work as it once did, and business owners are not seeing the return on their investment.

With 100s of millions of searches performed every day in Google it is estimated that over 40% of those searches are for local area products and services. Google has well over 60% of this search.

Mobile phone users are increasing at a rate 10 times faster then the PC did ten years ago. And what do you think mobile phone users are typically looking for while on the go? Local products and services.

This is where Google Places comes in formerly known as Google Local. Well aware of the statistics on local search Google updated their algorithm for local business results. This is what they did.

Google is always looking for ways to provide the most relevant searches for their users, and is why they make billions of dollars in advertising.

When someone in Chicago types in “Realtor” or “Defense Attorney” Google understands they don’t want to see results from a company in Los Angles or New York.

However, not every Attorney or Realtor in Chicago or Boston will be able to get these prominent positions as there are only a few spots at the top of the results pages. That is unless your listing is properly optimized.

This used to be fairly simple with Google local business listings but today its a little different. With this latest Algorithm change its imperative to optimize your Google Places listing if you want to consistently get new customers.
